About WS&E
at Oregon State
Welcome to the Department of Wood Science & Engineering
at Oregon State University!
We are a multidisciplinary university program focused on science, technology,
engineering and business practices that help society sustainably meet our needs
for wood products, and help ensure the global competitiveness of our domestic
industry.
Our mission includes educating new professionals in wood science and technology,
fostering advanced learning for post-graduate professionals, discovering new
knowledge and solving problems through research, and transferring knowledge
to users and practitioners. We aspire to be widely recognized as a leading
center in the world for wood science and engineering education, research and
outreach.
The Department is nationally ranked in the top 4 such programs in North America
by USDA and we are one of the most comprehensive in scope and activities. Our
faculty are world-class and leaders in their field. Our facilities and equipment
are among the most modern, and we enjoy strong working relations with other
disciplines and with industry partners.
This is an exciting time for wood science and technology, especially at Oregon
State. Increasing demand for wood products in the world and intensifying global
competition demand innovation, new discovery and well-educated professionals.
Our programs are at the forefront of that challenge.
We hope that our web site gives you a sense for our programs and will interest
you to learn more. Please let us know how we can help!
