Graduate Research Assistant Position

A GRA position is open in Wood Science and Engineering in the College of Forestry.

Field of study: Wood-based composite science and technology; materials science; wood-adhesive interactions; process modeling; wood modification

Starting Date: January 1, 2018; Duration: up to 24 months

Wood-Based Composites Center:
Financial support for this position is provided by the National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center for Wood-Based Composites (WBC). The WBC is a member driven research organization with university sites at Virginia Tech (Blacksburg, Virginia) and Oregon State University (Corvallis, Oregon). Industry members determine the research agenda and select projects for financial support. Students interact with WBC members via semi-annual meetings, technical sponsors, and work at member facilities. Qualifications:
Candidate must enroll as a MS degree student at Oregon State University with a major in Wood Science. Successful candidates must have a BS or equivalent degree in one of the fields of wood science, industrial engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, or closely related field. Good verbal and written communication skills in English are required. English proficiency test score, by TOEFL, must have minimum 575 (PBT), 238 (CBT), or 93 (iBT) ― with all sub scores on the iBT being at least a score of 18 or above. As an alternative to the TOEFL exam, students may take the IELTS exam. The Department requires a minimum IELTS score of 7. In special cases, conditional admission may be possible for applicants with scores below the Department's minimum standards.

Tuition and Stipend:
Stipend is classified as 0.49 FTE (full-time equivalent), 12-month appointment. Tuition is paid by OSU. Annual stipend is $23,238. Health care benefits are included. The position requires minimum 20 hours per week for research support, with remaining time devoted to academic studies. All non-US citizens must hold a valid US visa for university studies.
