Position Available INSTRUCTOR IN WOOD PRODUCTS MANUFACTURING

Position Description: Fulltime, 12-month, fixed-term faculty member at rank of Instructor. This position is supported by state general funds with reappointment at the discretion of the department head.

Position Duties:

45%: Develop and teach assigned undergraduate courses in wood products manufacturing and wood technology that will engage and challenge students; assist with assessing program learning outcomes and achievements. May develop distance education course offerings.

25%: Assist Lead Undergraduate Advisor with advising undergraduate students; assist with developing internships and placing students; serve as liaison between external employers and students; assist students with seeking permanent placement; serve as faculty advisor to student club; support department undergraduate recruiting and retention activities.

25%: Support the Oregon Wood Innovation Center through the development and execution of new and ongoing continuing education courses that capitalize on incumbent's expertise; provide technical assistance to clients and stakeholders; develop new opportunities for meeting stakeholder needs through fee service and similar research and development contracts. Conduct contract research and testing, write reports.

5%: Service on departmental and college governance and professional activities; serve on university and other committees as time interest and aptitude permit; actively engage in professional development and self-improvement. May supervise 1 - 2 student employees.  

Required qualifications:

MS degree with one degree in forest products, wood science and technology or similar field, a minimum of three years relevant experience in wood products manufacturing, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, strong oral and written communications ability. Teaching, advising or mentoring experience is desired.

Location: The Instructor will maintain an office on the OSU campus in Corvallis and will be an integral part of the Department of Wood Science & Engineering (WSE). WSE is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary teaching, research and outreach program that offers BS, MS and PhD degree programs to students from around the world. Enrollment is typically 40-50 undergraduate and 30-40 graduate students. WSE faculty members are very active with regional, national and international programs and the department is one of the premier wood science and technology programs in North America. WSE is a unit of the highly regarded College of Forestry at Oregon State and is housed in modern state-of-the-art facilities. It enjoys strong working relationships with a dynamic wood products industry in Oregon and elsewhere.
